Description

Event - Dementia Friend Workshop - JFS

JFS had received a generous three year grant award from the Administration for Community Living’s Administration on Aging for a JFS Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative.  JFS has been using these funds, in partnership with other community based organizations, to enhance and expand existing programs, and create a holistic range of client-centered support through referrals, specialized staff and volunteer training, client education, and direct service. These programs help provide support services to persons living with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD) in the community and offer behavioral symptom management training and expert consultation to family caregivers.

What is a Dementia Friend?

A Dementia Friend is someone who, through viewing a series of online videos or attending a live session, learns about what it's like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action. From telling friends about the Dementia Friends program to visiting someone who is living with dementia, every action counts. Anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend – we all have a part to play in creating dementia friendly communities!

During this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Describe dementia and know the most common type of dementia
  • State the five key messages about dementia
  • Explain one approach to effectively communicate with a person with dementia
  • Commit to an action as a Dementia Friend in their community

Workshop Zoom Link will be sent in the days prior to to the workshop.
