The Community Need
In partnership with the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency’s Child and Family Well-Being Department (CFWB), JFS's Family Income for Empowerment Program (FIEP) gives 452 families, with children under 18 referred by CFWB, unrestricted monthly cash support of $500 for 24 months. This program looks at how direct, “no strings attached” economic support impacts well-being and strengthens families.
How You Can Help
On Friday October 17th, The Economic Mobility and Opportunity Team is hosting a family-friendly event for our FIEP participants, many of whom are parents who express great difficulties in participating in certain events and activities for themselves due to lack of childcare. At this event, we will encourage them to share vulnerable experiences and delicate subjects, as they discuss their experiences in the program. By having volunteers support the provided childcare at the event, the adults would get to fully participate and immerse themselves in the activities in a way that isn't usually possible while trying to supervise their children simultaneously.
Tasks include
- Engaging children ages infant to teens with activities
- Supervising free play
- Monitoring health and safety
- Maintaining a safe adult-to-child ratio
