Program:
As part of the Nutrition Program at JFS which serves over 25,000 meals each month through it’s Home Delivered Meals and Congregate Dining programs. Hundreds of older adults enjoy the delicious, nutritionally beneficial kosher-style meals at the College Avenue Center (CAC) each year. Meals are provided with support from the County of San Diego’s Aging and Independence Services Senior Nutrition Program and a suggested contribution. No one is refused a meal if they cannot contribute.
Goal of Position:
To assist with serving daily lunches by creating a welcoming restaurant atmosphere for older adult clients. Volunteers serve each member with dignity and respect to ensure their dining experience is enjoyable.

Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Set up dining tables with tablecloths, flowers, cups and cutlery.
- Greet older adult members as they enter the lunchroom.
- Help members to their seat, if necessary.
- Serve meals from the kitchen to tables.
- Serve hot and cold beverages.
- Bus tables after meals are completed.
Skills:
- Must be friendly, outgoing, cheerful, kind and courteous.
- Enjoy working and interacting with older adults.
- Must be able to move quickly while carrying hot meals and cold packages.
Qualifications:
- Must create and complete a Volunteer profile in Galaxy Digital
- Must be at least 10 years old. All minor Volunteers must be accompanied by a supervising parent/guardian who is also a fully qualified JFS volunteer.
- Must have reliable transportation to CAC
- Complete an interview with program staff
- Complete and sign the volunteer waiver (signed by parent/guardian if applicable)
- Must pass a background check.
- HIPAA training (for ages 18+)
Time Commitment:
The College Avenue Center is open Monday through Friday. Two Volunteer Servers are needed from 11:00am to 1:00pm for set up and clean up each day.
