Join us for our March Donuts and Discussion to enjoy a donut, meet fellow volunteers, and learn about our exciting *new* volunteer opportunity with Refugee Resettlement!
What does Refugee Resettlement do?
Refugee Resettlement Program (R&R) resettles refugees and asylees from around the world. R&R assists arriving refugees adjust to their lives in the U.S. by helping them find employment, learn English, navigate public institutions, and more. Our team also helps refugees, asylees, lawful permanent residents (green card holders) and undocumented immigrants within the San Diego community access quality, low-cost immigration services. To address the cultural adjustment newcomers often face and its accompanying challenges, JFS offers many volunteer opportunities centered around empowerment through knowledge, community, and self-sufficiency.
A New Volunteer Opportunity!
Among our many volunteer opportunities is our newest one: Refugee Resettlement Youth Mentor! R&R Youth Mentors will mentor Congolese Youth by providing companionship as they adapt to life in the U.S. The goal is for volunteers to help youth by encouraging the development of social and life skills by helping youth learn American culture while maintaining and celebrating the youth’s cultural heritage; providing information about opportunities to participate in civic activities; providing academic support; and assisting with career development, health, and financial literacy. Together we work to develop leadership skills among the youth for the greater benefit of San Diego's DRC refugee community.
Come join us to learn more about this wonderful program, its newest volunteer position, and how you can help create a welcoming environment for our new neighbors!
