Dinner servers must be 12+ years of age and accompanied by an adult.
For individuals and families living in their vehicles, access to nutritious food is always a challenge. The pandemic only further impacted our Safe Parking participants through loss of employment, reduction in hours, and an overall decrease in access to daily resources. Even as the community has reopened, Safe Parking participants remain vulnerable.
JFS is counting on volunteers, like you, to continue providing Safe Parking participants with nutritious meals. The dinners you provide are essential as participants have to make difficult daily choices between purchasing food, gas, medicine and other basic necessities.
In an effort to decrease the risk of COVID-19 for our clients and volunteers, JFS has increased community distancing efforts in the Safe Parking Program. Since volunteers and participants can no longer come together in a communal space to share dinner, we ask that you provide all 60 meals individually-packaged (i.e, brown bag dinners or boxed meals) for drop off at 6:30pm.
To maintain proper food safety, all donated meals must either be from a restaurant or prepared in a commercial kitchen. Most restaurants are happy to individually package the meals and may even offer delivery themselves or through UberEats, DoorDash, etc. Some restaurant favorites have been Subway/Panera or other places boxing sandwiches, or burritos and bowls from local Mexican and Italian eateries. Pizza is not the preferred option as it does not arrive individually-packaged. We also ask that you avoid soups which are often difficult to distribute and eat in a vehicle.
Lastly, we ask that you reserve a dinner at least 48 hours out from your preferred date to ensure there's no duplication and to allow time for our staff to process your request.
