* You MUST provide dinner for this volunteer opportunity.
The needs around food for Safe Parking clients are more critical than ever.
As grocery stores are cleared out and restaurants are closing, more and more clients are reporting increased food insecurity and that the dinner we provide is their first meal of the day.
In an effort to decrease the risk of COVID-19 on campus and in our community, we are increasing community distancing efforts in the Safe Parking Program. Volunteers and participants will no longer congregate together in the community room or at picnic tables over dinner. Therefore, we are asking that all 60 meals be individually packaged (i.e, brown bag dinners or boxed meals) for drop off at 5:30pm.
We strongly encourage ordering food from your favorite local restaurants (who are also struggling) to deliver the meal themselves or through UberEats, DoorDash. Some favorites have been Subway/Panera or other places boxing sandwiches, Boston Market, or burritos. Pizza is not the preferred option, especially as it does not arrive individually-packaged.
This is also an opportunity for volunteer groups to support their local restaurants (who are also impacted by COVID-19) by choosing to cater from restaurants that can provide 60 individually packaged dinners for those most in need.
As the Safe Parking Program will continue to operate nightly at all locations, we are counting on volunteers to continue supporting the Safe Parking participants with these essential, nutritious meals in order to make the participants' nightly choices between purchasing food, gas, and other essentials a little easier.
Lastly, we ask that you reserve a dinner at least 48 hours out from your preferred date to ensure there's no duplication and time for administrative staff to process. Thank you!
