Program: 

Refugee Resettlement Program (R&R) assists arriving refugees to adjust to their lives in the U.S. by helping them find employment, learn English, navigate public institutions, and more. To address the cultural adjustment newcomers often face and its accompanying challenges, JFS offers many volunteer opportunities centered around empowerment through knowledge, community, and self-sufficiency. 

Goal of Position: 

Career showcase volunteers are vital to helping educate our refugee clients on U.S. education systems as well as explaining different pathways that refugees can take. By sharing your experience as a working individual in America and holding conversations with our clients, you can help them learn and explore different career fields. Volunteers can showcase their careers with a group of people who are eager to work and learn in the U.S.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Attend bi-monthly meetings at Mission Gorge location (clients will come with questions, likely be a group of similar language speakers) 
  • Answer questions from refugee clients about your field (interpreter and JFS staff would be present) 
  • Network and have conversations with clients at meeting to share resources for clients 
  • Educate group of clients on how U.S. education systems work  
  • Share any certifications/information on how they helped you get into your field 

Qualifications and Accommodations: 

  • Pass a LiveScan background check 
  • Complete HIPAA Privacy/Security training and JFS Waiver 
  • Be at least 18 years or all minors must be accompanied by an adult 
  • Attend a program interview and Refugee Resettlement volunteer orientation (1.5 hours) 
  • Complete a short reading of cultural awareness training and quiz following RR orientation 
  • Be considerate and patient with English learners be compassionate, caring, and culturally sensitive 
  • Have reliable transportation to get to our campus 
  • Honor confidentiality of client records and sign confidentiality agreement

  • Finance: sales and accounting 
  • IT  
  • Teachers / educators  
  • Humanitarian careers   

Time/Service Commitment: 

Bi-Monthly in person showcase meeting at Mission Gorge campus for 3 hours. Scheduling is based on Volunteers availability and will be coordinated between volunteer and  program staff   

Location: 

Please report to the Mission Gorge campus. (Address shared once volunteers are fully onboarded).
